Last week I wrote that arguably the biggest challenge affecting African development would be population growth combined with climate change. Specifically, I quoted the consensus forecast established at the UN which showed African populations rising from around 1.1 billion in 2015 to about 4.4 billion by 2100. This week I was attending a seminar near Vienna at the International Institute for Advanced Systems Analysis (IIASA) and their forecasts for African Population growth is considerably lower than the UN forecast. They expect population will double rather than quadruple.
