Last week I wrote that arguably the biggest challenge affecting African development would be population growth combined with climate change. Specifically, I quoted the consensus forecast established at the UN which showed African populations rising from around 1.1 billion in 2015 to about 4.4 billion by 2100. This week I was attending a seminar near Vienna at the International Institute for Advanced Systems Analysis (IIASA) and their forecasts for African Population growth is considerably lower than the UN forecast.
